1. Cookies and Browser Storage
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, remember your preferences, and provide information to website owners.
Cookies can be "session cookies" which are deleted when you close your browser, or "persistent cookies" which remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them.
Browser local storage is a different technology that also keeps values on your device. The current UseLiveSocial application uses local storage for the purposes described below.
2. How We Use Browser Storage
UseLiveSocial uses localStorage for the following purposes:
Authentication Storage
The Supabase browser client stores authentication session data in local browser storage so you can stay signed in. Clearing this data signs you out; signed-out public pages remain available.
Twitch Claim Attempt
When an eligible user starts Twitch ownership verification, we set a secure, same-site, HTTP-only cookie for up to ten minutes. It contains only a random opaque nonce used once to correlate the callback; it contains no Twitch token or profile data.
Invitation Continuation
When you open a team invitation, we set a secure, same-site, HTTP-only cookie for up to seven days so email confirmation or a page reload can safely resume acceptance. The cookie contains an authenticated encrypted continuation derived from the invitation token hash, never the raw invitation token. It is removed after successful acceptance or a terminal expiry/replay result.
Local Preferences
We use localStorage (a similar technology to cookies) to remember your selected color theme and whether you dismissed the cookie notice. These values stay on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

3. Third-Party Cookies
Some third-party services we use may also set cookies on your device:
- Stripe: Paid checkout is not active during the private beta, so the current beta flow does not open Stripe-hosted checkout.
- Supabase: Our authentication and database provider processes authentication requests under Supabase's Privacy Policy. In the current application, its browser client persists session data in local storage.
- Google: If you choose Continue with Google, Google's hosted sign-in flow may use cookies or similar storage under Google's Privacy Policy.
- Twitch: If you choose ownership verification, Twitch's hosted authorization flow may use cookies or similar storage under Twitch's Privacy Notice.
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising/tracking cookies.
4. Managing Cookies
You can control and manage cookies in several ways:
Browser Settings
Most browsers allow you to refuse or accept cookies, delete existing cookies, and set preferences for certain websites. The method varies by browser:
Clearing or blocking local browser storage prevents the application from retaining a signed-in session and may reset interface preferences. Blocking an essential continuation cookie prevents its invitation or Twitch ownership flow from resuming; reopening the invitation or starting a new Twitch claim creates a new bounded continuation.
5. Cookie Notice
When you first visit UseLiveSocial, a notice explains the local browser storage used by the Service and the possibility that hosted third-party flows may apply their own policies when opened. Dismissing the notice stores only a local acknowledgement; it does not enable any optional analytics or advertising technology. You can clear local storage through your browser settings, which also signs you out and resets stored preferences.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page when changes are made.
